Dirty Dancing Wedding Dance Theme Was a Success!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Well I have to say, I think Jen and Tony really pulled this one off.  Not too often do wedding dance themes worked out, as recently mentioned in the Austin Powers Themed Wedding Dance.  However, I think this example of Jen and Tony dancing to the Dirty Dance Theme Song actually worked out nicely.  The begin was a little fast pushed, but as the two calmed down a bit, their dancing skills showed, the fun they were having was apparent and the guest really got into it.  How do you feel about this performance?

Wedding Dance Themes – What Not to Do… Austin Powers Dance

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Okay, so it’s definitely cute to have a wedding dance theme and it’s very important to practice your dance as its transparent to your guest.  But as a side note, when you’re practicing your dance, be sure to look in a mirror, you’ll be surprised with what you see.  You may find out that you’re way too stiff, or too loose or whatever, so be certain to look at a mirror while practicing.  But back on point, if you’re planning on having a theme around your wedding dance, be very careful with what you pick.  The following couple choose an Austin Powers Dance as their wedding dance and… well, I’m not trying to be a sinister here, but let’s think about it for a moment.  One, Austin Powers is far from being serious.  Your wedding day is a serious thing, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have fun, but it means that things should be done with more of a serious nature.  Two, Austin Powers is currently not relevant nor will it be 10 years from now.  Ever look back at your middle school pictures?  Embarrassing right?  Well times that by 10.

So, the point is, give your dance much thought, traditional is timeless.

Suprise Father & Daughter Wedding Dance – Tonto, Jump on it!

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Well here’s an idea for the brides.  If you and your father have a funny personality and you wish to be original, you can plan a surprise father and daughter dance.  In this example this funny father and daughter wedding dance starts with a slow western song and evolves into The Sugarhill Gang’s “Tonto, Jump on it!” song.  Although the couple did pretty well with their father and daughter dance, I would suggest to those who plan on doing a surprise dance to jump into the surprise much sooner, I feel that the effectiveness is much better.

Brubaker’s First Crazy Wedding Dance – I Like Big Butts

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Not quite sure why the Brubaker’s first wedding dance was such a hit, while other great wedding dances including the Surprise Breakdance and the Jack Johnson Michael Jackson Surprise First Wedding Dance didn’t even make a splash. But it is what it is, and John Brubaker and Michelle Brubaker have made the spotlight on such shows as the Today Show.  Check out their first dance video.

Indian Wedding Dance With a Surprise First Dance

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

You’ve probably seen the other Surprise wedding dance posts by now,
Jack Johnson Michael Jackson Surprise First Wedding Dance and Surprise Breakdance. Both dances were executed very well, due to the choose of music, dance and most importantly timeliness.  One surprise wedding dance that I don’t believe was as effective is this wedding dance that starts off with an Indian slow song and cuts into California Love by Tupac.  The crowd’s participation / reaction was nonexistent which to me, makes this surprise a bust… you be the judge

Jack Johnson Michael Jackson Surprise First Wedding Dance

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Yesterday we posted Amazing Wedding First Dance Video – Surprise Breakdance, and some of you really enjoyed it.  So, I decided to post another example of a surprise wedding dance, this time the couple dances to a slow Jack Johnson song, followed up with Micheal Jackson.  One personal note about this particular surprise wedding dance.  Although it was successful, I would recommend starting the surprise a bit sooner.  Enjoy the video:

Amazing Wedding First Dance Video – Surprise Breakdance

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Okay, this is just awesome.  This couple decided to get a bit creative with their first wedding dance.  Instead of the typical box or waltz step, this couple decided to start off traditionally, and mix it up a bit.  You’ll be shocked when you see their transition from an elegant Waltz to the 80’s breakdance move – the Robot! The mix of music used is Johann Strauss – Blue Danube, Afrika Bambaataa – Looking for the Perfect Beat.  The entire dance was choreographed themselves!

Practice Tips For Your First Wedding Dance

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007
  • Practice your dance to your song.
    • It sounds pretty obvious, but some people neglect to do it. You should always practice your wedding dance while listening to the song that you plan to dance to. When the big day comes, you’ll be very comfortable with the flow of the dance.
  • Know the size of the dance floor.
    • Make sure you know how much floor space that you have to work it. If the dance floor is small, practice in a small area.
  • Practice through your mistakes
    • Often times when practicing their wedding dance, a couple will stop dead in their tracks if a mistake is made. This is a bad practice. If you become accustomed to stopping when a mistake is made, you may react the same on your wedding day. So work through your mistakes, so that you can recover if a mistake occurs during your official wedding dance.
  • Know your the start / stop cues
    • Decided how you want to start and stop your wedding dance. If you know the foot you’re going to start and end on, you dance will go much more smoothly.

Your First Dance – Learn to Dance For Your Wedding

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

If you’re at all like the most of us, you’re completely nervous about your first dance, as you’ll have to dance in front of hundreds of people at your wedding. Most of us are uncomfortable with and lack confidence in our dancing abilities. So, what’s a person to do? You can simply wing it and see what happens or you can make a smart decision and plan your wedding dance. Now, you don’t have to have a perfectly choreographed wedding dance, you can if you wish, but simply a relaxed, fun dance routine can be very elegant.

There are a number of Dance Instructors in all neighborhoods that provide private lessons and will help you find and develop your own wedding dance. A dance instructor can help you learn the basics of the waltz, fox trot, rumba, swing and more. You may feel very comfortable with one of these steps, and decide to take the basic moves a step further to design your own unique wedding dance.

There are several approaches to keep in mind when planning your wedding dance. Something we like to focus on are the money savings tips.

  • Take a dance class at a local high school.
    • Private Dance lessons are not going to be cheap. So, if you’re completely new to the basic dance steps, consider learning the basics with a class. You will save a lot of money, most likely a full course – 10 classes will be equivalent to the cost of 1 – 1 1/2 private lessons.
  • Purchase a wedding dance video
    • The same concept as taking a dance class applies to purchasing a wedding dance video. If you want to avoid the cost of private lessons to learn the basics, you can pick up a wedding dance instructional video to learn the basic steps in the privacy of your own home, and at your convenience.
